About This Event
Discover the history, ecology, and conservation of America’s Rattlesnake – the Timber Rattlesnake. The Timber Rattlesnake has a varied history with our own country, once being an animal that was placed on a pedestal and then quickly moved to the chopping block. We will discuss reasons why this animal is so special and should be conserved throughout its range. This talk will discuss what makes a rattlesnake a rattlesnake and some amazing facts about the Timber Rattlesnake and how it interacts with its environment. We will also explore the Northern Copperhead (the only other venomous snake in our backyard) in addition to the Eastern Milksnake and Common Watersnake (two species of snake that are commonly mistaken for venomous animals) and perhaps more snake species from our backyard. There will be safe opportunities to see live representatives of snakes an hour before the talk (feel free to come early!). This talk will also have plenty of interactive moments for kids (and adults) of all ages. Event begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. Meet at Environmental Education Center. Registration is required.
Cost: $5/family (non-members), Free for members
Members of Lacawac Sanctuary receive reduced rates on select programs and events. By becoming a member, you help sustain our nonprofit mission and gain meaningful benefits while supporting education, research, and conservation. https://www.lacawac.org/membership.html
Rescheduling and Cancellation Policy:
- Lacawac reserves the right to reschedule, postpone, or cancel a program due to low registration (fewer than 10 attendees), weather conditions, or other circumstances beyond our control. Participants will be notified as soon as possible if changes are necessary.
- If Lacawac cancels a paid program, participants will receive a full refund of their registration fee. If Lacawac reschedules or postpones a paid program, tickets will automatically be honored for the new date. If a ticket holder cannot attend the rescheduled date, they may choose to donate their registration fee to support Lacawac’s nonprofit mission, or receive a credit toward a future Lacawac program.
- As a nonprofit organization, Lacawac incurs credit card processing fees for both registrations and refunds, which reduces funds available for programs. Thank you for understanding and for supporting our mission.
- No action is needed if you are able to attend on the new date. We encourage participants to check their email and Lacawac’s website and social media channels for updates, especially as weather conditions may impact programs.
